The project went very well! The video was completed on time, and my mentor (and the kids) were very satisfied with the finished product. I am very proud of it. I will be posting it on my blog once the fundraiser is public.
I had to make two drafts of the video. The kids critiqued and helped my fix the first draft. Then I went home, fixed it, and showed it the next day. My mentor and her academic coach loved it. I'm so proud. Some advice I would offer future interns would be, do something that interests you, have a positive attitude, and be ready to work.
First of all, when you pick something that you have some, or a lot of interest in, something good is bound to come out of it. Two things could happen, one: you end up loving your internship and it makes you want to pursue that career, or you don't like it thus you know you don't want to do that specific occupation for a career. Finding a career that does interest and excite you would be easier to find. Side advice: don't 'settle' for an internship. What I mean is don't accept an internship given to you just because you can't find one of your own. Nine out of ten times you'll end up with a bad internship experience. Next, keeping a positive attitude is important for not just work, but life. When you go into internship don't set your expectations too high, but don't set them too low either. Go in with good intentions, and be ready to live in an adult's world for a month. Lastly, be ready to work. Just because you're not at school does not mean you're not working. In fact, you'll probably be working more. With set hours and assignments your internship is gonna keep you busy. They're not gonna let free labor go to waste, but do not let your work go to waste either. Learn from it. Is this something that you want to keep doing? Are you just cleaning, and making copies? Or are you participating in an enriching experience for you and the company? Ask yourself these questions, and use them to set a plan for your life. Oh yeah, and have fun. I haven't been thinking of college at all. I've been getting e-mails from colleges, but I haven't really thought about what college I want to go to. All I know is that I want to go to a university. I'm thinking NYU, USC, or University of Washington, but I'm still not sure.
Man, I appreciate so much here at HTe. The kids to start. They're so inspirational, smart, funny, and creative. I love talking to them, and learning from them. They're absolutely brilliant. I also appreciate Mrs. Alli. She's the best mentor I could of asked for. She's so kind, funny, patient, and full of love. She's taught me so much about being a teacher, and I really appreciate it.
