The characteristics I would like to develop for myself that I see in my coworkers are: the ability to be stern, and friendly with a child. It's hard for me to say no to people, especially a child, but I see my mentor, and other teachers saying no, or having them doing something else that they wouldn't want to do. Another one would be planning and scheduling activities. I'm not very good at planning things down to the minute, but teachers generally are.
For my iPOL I will not be relying on any notes, only the bullet points on screen. I am preparing for the questions by asking myself questions, and formulating answers based off of that. I appreciate the kids, and other teacher more after my internship. The kids are so smart, and teachers work very hard. From day to day I am always helping kids, or helping Mrs. Alli.
I've learned that I need to always keep my mentor updated. For example, on Friday I was studying for my SAT in my down time, and I didn't tell my mentor that I was taking it the next day. I told one of my colleagues in passing when she asked what I was doing. She mentioned it to my mentor, and she was surprised. She came up to me, and told me "You never told me you were taking the SAT tomorrow." I told her I didn't think it was a big deal. "It is a big deal. You need to go home right now, and study. It's raining, and the busses are gonna be running late. Go home, and study."
The project is going very well. I just showed the kids the first draft of the video, and they really liked it. They offered constructive criticism to the video, and I will be making the changes accordingly. Me working on the video consisted of taking pictures, recording voices, recording videos, and editing the video. I've learned that being a part of the video doesn't mean being in it, but seeing every picture and video you took, and knowing that you were a part of that moment. I was there when taking the pictures, videos, and recording the voices.
