2016 Presidential Election Project
About the election project:
We started this project by asking "what does it mean to be an educated voter?" To answer that question we had to learn the definition of patriotic. What does it mean to be patriotic? We learned that there is no solid definition of patriotic, and perception is everything. We then took an online quiz on isidewith.com to see where we politically aligned. When I completed the quiz I found that I was mostly aligned with Jill Stein of the Green Party. I then began to think about where I truly align politically, and I realized the first step to becoming an educational voter is looking at each candidate closely. Here you can find an overview of the entire project.
Project Process:
We started this project by writing letters to the future president of the United States. I focused my letter on climate change and energy.

We were randomly chosen to be put on campaign teams. I was chosen to be on Donald Trump's team, and I was Trump himself. My job was to look up things he has said, and business moves he has made to determine if he's being truthful about his character. Here are the worksheets I had completed to fact check him accurately:

After completing our fact checking we got into our teams and began working on a video. I worked with our campaign manager and vice president. We started by compiling our facts and quotes into one sheet: here.
We then created a story board of our video. The point of our video was to fact-check the things he has said and check his character to determine whether or not he could "make America great again." We looked at Trump as a businessman, family man, military man and a person who respects women. Our storyboard

Self Reflection
This project has taught me several things, the first being what it means to be an educated voter. To be an educated voter you must look at all of your options, learn what they want to do, what their views are, and how they will run. When you look at those things you should choose the candidate that you feel most comfortable with, and the one you align with most. The most challenging part about this project for me was making our video. In my group we had to check Trump's character, and our video was made out to be an ad against Trump, but we worked with Joanne and each other to make a successful video. I learned many things about politics and government during this project. I learned about campaigning, what it meant to be president, the two parties, debating, and formulating an argument. As I am writing this Trump has been elected to be president. I have some faith in him, but I am more worried for my friends who will be affected by his presidency, and what he wants to do.
