Being able to make a google doc, or use google tools has helped me manage the classroom digitally. Also leaderships skills I have acquired over the years have helped me keep things in line (sometimes). I learned these skills from my PBL assignments that have helped me learn how to collaborate and take the lead when necessary. I've been able to use it to try and quiet the class when they're rowdy, or when I'm giving instructions for my project. A skill I still need to develop is patience, because this job requires a lot of it. I am dealing with it by trying my best.
This externship is different from high school projects because I am leading the project on my own, with 26 young ones in tow. It's odd that I am the one who is planning and executing a project for once instead of me being the one to complete it. I like just doing the projects better in my opinion. Prompt: Describe a new skill or new knowledge that you acquired this week while in externship.
This being my second day there hasn't been much development of new skills. However, I feel as if my ability to interact with the children and relate to them as a student as well as a teacher is always improving. My goal will be to take this class of fifth graders and prepare them for the big scary world of middle school. Prompt: Describe your project or internship. What are you excited about? Nervous about?
I am currently interning with Mrs. Janna at High Tech Elementary. I do not have a project to work on at the moment because the children are getting prepped for their exhibition this Thursday. So I have been helping the kids get ready for their exhibition, as well as helping them with their other tasks such as math, reading, and writing. I am excited for next week because I will be given opportunities to come up with my own lessons and design a mini project for the kids. I'm thinking an art project where the kids get to make a movie, but incorporate all forms of art, story telling, filming, music composition, etc. I am nervous of how difficult it will be to excite and inspire fifth graders in may. |
